Are You A Desk Diner?

Are you a desk diner? Do you eat lunch at your desk more than once per week? Do you feel just too busy to get away?
If this sounds familiar you are not alone. Some 70% of Americans eat at their desks several times a week, according to the American Dietetic Association. Here are some reasons not to eat while you work:

  • Studies show when you eat at your desk you are not as focused on the food - the perfect recipe for mindless eating and possibly overeating.
  • lunching at your desk means you are still sitting in front of your computer and not moving.
  • lunching at your desk and/or keeping food out for long periods of time can create a field day for unhealthy bacteria to grow http://www.eatright.org/.

Not eating at your desk should be a priority however if you must, here are some tips for improving the experience:

  • Watch what you eat and pay attention to what you're putting in your mouth. Be focused on what you are doing to avoid eating too much.
  • Pick a meal that's moderate in size but doesn't fill you up. Being too full can make you sleepy.
  • Try to bring lunch from home and avoid takeout lunches, which usually are expensive, over sized, heavy in fat, salt and calories, and lacking in nutrients.
  • Take a walk before and after you eat! Walk the stairs! You were meant to move!
  • Disinfect your desk with cleaner and don't forget the phone, mouse and keyboard.
