CDHP's begin to Deliver on Promise

Employees who are enrolled in consumer directed health plans (CDHP's) are more engaged in employee wellness programs than those with traditional health care coverage. This according to recent survey findings released by Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA).

Consumers eligible for HSA's are 17% more likely to participate in exercise programs, 20% more likely to engage in smoking cessation, 22% more likely to engage in stress management and 27% more likely to enroll in nutrition and diet programs.

These employees are also more likely to save for future health care expenses and seek out information about doctor and hospital costs and quality.

This survey shows that CDHP's do actually help consumers be more engaged in their health care decisions and become healthier as a result. This underscores the need to couple wellness programs with CDHP's, with bottom line savings to the employee as well as the employer.
