Americans Cholesterol Average is Normal And the Bad News is...

The reduction in total cholesterol numbers is most likely due to the increase in the number of statins prescribed. That is not good news to me. Statins are expensive, and I believe they encourage people to continue with the bad habits that got them in trouble in the first place. Healthy lifestyle habits, not more drugs, that's my mantra.

In other heart attack related news, saturated fats may not be the villians they have been made out to be. According to Nina Teicholz, in an article for Mens Health magazine, the link between saturated fat intake and heart disease has not been definitively made. Again, healthy lifestyle habits matter more than what you eat. The evidence is piling up and as for me, I am sticking to my coconut milk and butter ( as well as my exercise, whole grains and fruits and vegetables)!
