New HIPAA Rules Clear Way for Wellness Programs

The HIPAA rules that were modified last July and go in effect this January 2008 should make it easier for smaller employers to implement wellness programs. Prior to these rule changes, many employers were worried about breaking the rules. I referenced these rules in an earlier post.
Some state governments and many associations offer awards for businesses who implement wellness programs. Governor Dave Heineman of Nebraska announced the Governor's Award of Excellence in Wellness,a new, statewide award designed to encourage more businesses to have wellness programs for employees. The Alliance for Workplace Excellence awards businesses in Maryland the Health and Wellness Trailblazer Award. This all adds up to more reasons than ever before for businesses to take a look at wellness programs.
