Paying Employees to Be Healthy Returns Rewards

Here is an example of an employee wellness program that pays big rewards but gets an a huge return.

IBM pays employees up to $300 to adopt healthy habits - adding up to $130 million dollars, but their return is triple that - they estimate they save almost $360 million.

In the article, Dr. Paul Grundy, director of Strategic Initiatives at IBM,is quoted as telling CBS: "Frankly speaking, we don't know why everybody wouldn't do this because it really does make a great deal of sense." You know what? he's absolutely right.

Incentives work, specifically incentives for employees to get healthy. If you are considering an incentives-based workplace wellness program within your company, you should take a look at these incentive ideas that Meritain Health created: http://meritain.com/Home/Resources/MeritainPodcasts http://meritain.com/Home/Resources/WhitePapers. Examples of incentives that have worked are reduced medical premiums, Health Reimbursement Arrangements, subsidized gym programs or gift cards/cash. They can help encourage healthy lifestyle changes amongst your staff.
