The Ontario City of Kawartha Lakes is holding something it calls Try Something Different Week, a way to expose people to fun activities that may be new to them and could become part of their lives.
Some of the less expected activities it’s presenting during the week:
- Lawn bowling
- Equestrian activities
- Water running
- Country line dancing
According to a Lindsay Post newspaper article on the physical activities program, the week is part of a nation-wide Canadian SummerActive Campaign, an initiative by the Public Health Agency of Canada, Health Canada, Sport Canada, various local governments and non-profit and for-profit firms.
Isn’t it great to see what people can come up with if they expand the idea of “fitness” and “physical activity”?
As you plan your own activities programs, keep in mind that fitness programs are a lot more than aerobics, gyms, biking and walking.
Lunchtime lawn bowling! Who’d have thought of it?
