Small Business, Wellness, and HIPAA (cont'd.)

A recent article from Fortune Small Business touts the benefits of employee wellness programs for small companies.
It gets into the issues of whether giving employees incentives to participate in wellness plans--or penalties for failing to--is legal under HIPAA. We've written about this issue of HIPAA and wellness a lot on this blog, and it's one our clients always have questions about.
While the Fortune article doesn't break much new ground, it's a good overview for those new to the issue.

But make sure you read the comments on the Fortune site. It's a great chance to listen in on the kind of discussions employees have whenever a wellness program with incentives is introduced. Before you launch a program, make sure all your stakeholders anticipate how employees might react.
