Wal-Mart Wellness, Back in the News

Earlier this month, big-box behemoth Wal-Mart announced that it is launching a corporate wellness program designed to keep employees and their families healthier and happier in 2009.
An example of the company’s new-and-improved health plan offerings for workers at all U.S. Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club stores is "Life with Baby," which will provide better prenatal care and education to workers and their spouses during the prenatal, postpartum and child-care phases, including four periodontal cleanings to help prevent the risks to mother and baby posed by gum disease and a new smoking cessation program.
"We have worked hard to provide high-quality, affordable health care to our associates and I think this additional focus on wellness steps us up to a new level," said Wal-Mart U.S. President & CEO Eduardo Castro-Wright in a prepared statement.

"Over the past year, our associates have told us they wanted additional help in keeping themselves and their families healthy, and we have responded with new plans designed to do just that."
