Obama, Health Care Reform, and You

A battle is brewing over the future of health care, and it's no wonder--costs have been skyrocketing for years now. President Obama's answer (during the campaign, at least) was to encourage the development of two systems--one public, one private--that would compete with each other to lower costs. More recently, he has voiced a willingness to consider any option that would expand coverage and make health care more affordable.

I have long believed that the answer to our nation's health care crisis is prevention. And while government intervention will always be controversial, we all end up footing the bill when the nation is unhealthy. As the Corporate Research Group's blog put it, "[Those who] feel that it's nobody's business how people treat their own body have a strong argument as long as [they] pay their own medical expenses."

The good news is, there's a lot you can do as wellness professionals. Whether it's offering a seminar on healthy eating or organizing a health fair, you can steer your employees in the right direction and help your bottom line at the same time. So let's get started. There's no time to lose.
