CDC Recommends Seasonal Flu Vaccinations

When the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other health agencies first reported that a new strain of swine flu (now officially called H1N1) was spreading worldwide, some feared a panic. Thankfully, most cases have so far proven to be relatively mild. Last Thursday, the Food and Drug Administration announced that it would work closely with drug companies to facilitate the testing of experimental H1N1 vaccines.

Although the seasonal flu vaccine does not prevent swine flu, the CDC has stepped up its recommendations. "Vaccination against seasonal influenza should begin as soon as vaccine is available and continue throughout the flu season," said Dr. Anne Schuchat. According to the CDC, the seasonal vaccine will prevent individuals from being infected by both strains of flu simultaneously, and can "help minimize the effects of the pandemic on schools, workplaces, and the economy in general."

Health fair season is fast approaching, so start planning now. Providing flu shots to your employees will help them stay well--and that helps your bottom line.

For every flu shot we administer this year, Wellness Corporate Solutions will donate 50 cents to A Wider Circle, a charity that assists low-income families.
