Published in the September/October issue of the American Journal of Health Promotion, the study estimates that adhering to the recommended level of sodium--2,300 milligrams per day--would result in 11 million fewer cases of high blood pressure each year, resulting in an $18 billion reduction in costs. Reduce sodium consumption to 1,500 milligrams per day, and we could save $26 billion.
