Cabin John Challenge: Off and Running!

I'm delighted to report that our community wellness challenge is off to a fantastic start. We had more than forty enthusiastic participants at our kickoff event this past Monday! Emily, Erin, Debbie, and Juliet took blood pressure and body composition readings, and everyone received pedometers to track their steps.

Emily made her famous Spinach Smoothies for the kickoff, and they were a huge hit, as always. The recipe is below. Be brave and give them a try--they're delicious!

On Wednesday, Juliet led a group of about fifteen people down the beautiful C&O Canal for our first lunchtime walk. It's so encouraging to see people of all ages and fitness levels getting together to enjoy the beautiful spring weather. Given the enthusiasm I've seen so far, I know we'll have tons of good news to report in the coming weeks.

Spinach Smoothie
  • 1 cup frozen pineapple chunks (or 3/4 cup fresh pineapple, plus 1 cup ice)
  • 1/2 cup green seedless grapes
  • 1 banana
  • 6 ounces fresh spinach leaves, washed and dried
  • 1 cup chilled water
To prepare: Using a blender, combine all ingredients. Serve immediately. For a thicker smoothie, add more ice. Recipe can be doubled or halved.
